How to Remove Paint from a Camper!

Our “new to us” camper trailer was a mish mash mess on the outside, so we had to figure out how to remove the paint. You can read more about how we got the camper in our previous post. Half of the camper was still the original white and teal paint. The front end and backside however were repainted by the last owners. They had coated it in a thick brown paint that was nearly impossible to remove.

Lizz and I went to Walmart and got a few things we thought would be useful. There was a Paint and Rust Stripper Drill Attachment, or as I prefer to call it “a round ramen noodle looking buffer pad” that we tried, a few different metal brushes and a metal scraper.

We had spent 2 days trying to scrape the paint off and had gotten to the point where we were thinking of buying a chemical filled stripper. Thankfully Dad had caught wind of our hardships and came up the hill carrying our saving grace. He knew we didn’t what a strong stripper, but we wanted that paint off! He was carrying a small bottle of Citri-Strip and a small plastic scraper. We brushed this miracle cream on and went to lunch. When we came back, that spot was all bubbly and with one easy scrape, we were down to bare metal! We got a couple more scrapers and set to work that evening using the remainder of the small bottle of Citri-Strip. The following weekend we came back armed with a large bottle and tackled most of the rest of the paint. Queue our cheesy stripping montage!
